  CodeBank latest (2.1.2.100)
Description:

CodeBank v2 is tree based (XML) personal information database.

It allows you to maintain a hierachical database of textual information like:

* programming code snippets
* notes
* links
* quotes
* SQL queries
+ whatever you like you name it
CodeBank is designed to work with relatively large amount of records. I have successfuly tested it with 20000+ records.

Unlike similar programs CodeBank is fully portable and can be carried on removable media. The compression feature
helps in that matter too. The encryption feature provides high grade (256bit AES) of security for sensitive information.
The internal search engine can search for words, phrases and regular expressions.
CodeBank also allows you to comment and tag your own snippets/records so you can find them easier later.

The initial reason I developped this application was to help with the training of a programming team for programming competitions (ACM, TopCoder etc.)
  • remembers the exact state you left it
  • Great "Search Engine" for the database
  • syntax highlightning in C/C++, Object Pascal, Java, XML, Visual Basic, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP, Perl, Python, SQL
  • Drag & Drop
  • Unlimited database size
  • Export/Import between databases
  • zip Compression
  • AES Encryption

Just downloaded, looks like a very good tool. A couple of questions:

- When I try to close the program, it just minimizes. Could there be an option to close it?

- There is only one syntax highlighting option for each "bank". I am creating a bank with snippets in differente languages. Maybe you could set different syntax highlighting for each "folder" (ie, one folder in PHP, other in Perl, etc...)

Thanks for this program, it looks great!

This app is very good but it lacks option to minimize it to tray and to set different programming language for different folders inside one database.

Hi,
The porgram works well with the exception of loading last opened

For quite some time I had been looking for a small window utility like CodeBank. I downloaded many and tested and settled for free version of TreePad.

I was not satisified and kept on searching for something better. Now I have Codebank and I can say without hesitation that it is the only utility in this class of product which supports Syntax highlighting. Now treePad has been replaced by Codebank in my machine.

I have a few suggestions which you may like to look into :

1) Freeware sites where Codebank is made avilable do not mention its Syntax highlighting property in the description. Only if the visitor cares to look at the SnapShot, he/she discovers by surprise that it supports Syntax highlighting also.

2) it is already 1,263,104 bytes in size. which is too high for an appication like this. Please add any new feature only after fully satisfying yourself its value addition to the user and not just because it can be done.

3) CodeBank will be used by the developers to store his/her codes for reuse. Any accidental changes made to a code snippet will be fatal. May I suggest that you add a feature 'Lock Edit'? If a developer wants to make changes, he/she will first remove the lock by clicking on the app icon, make changes and then lock again.

4) Because of the convenience of tree structure category, there will be only one code snippet per tree node. may I suggest you offer the feature of 'Copy All' in the right click menu of right pane?

5) Tool bar has a back background which is hurting eyes. is there a way I can change the background color to white or some other light shade as is shown in the SnapShot available on freeware web sites?

Thank you for writing this code and making it freely available to the developer comunity. If you ever think of rewriting the code, please take a look at WsCITE. This will be a great favour to the developers.

When I enter text for records, after I press space (most of the times) the next letter is inserted after the cursor instead of the before the cursor. It looks like I letter is inserted properly, but cursor is not move to the end. My database does not use any highlighting.

If by back you mean black, then I have the same problem. I was using another program earlier to day and and it had wierd black backgrounds for hilighted icons in menus. Seems like some sort of delphi bug. I could be wrong though.

I'd love to see more syntax highlighters in this nifty little proggie.
Or atleast have the ability for users to add more themselfs. I use programs like PureBasic, Visual DialogScipt and others and they aren't included.

If you need someone to write some extra files to email you you can email me the API you have setup for the syntax highlighters at geotrail@gmail.com

From what I can see CodeBank seems like an excellent tool! The only problem is that everything I add is lost when I quit, and the program crashes when I start CodeBank the next time. Hence it is currently unusable. But, as soon as this works I would highly recommend it to everyone I know.

Are you working on fixing this bug?

Could you also set up this forum to display the date for the posts? Would be nice to know if all the previous posts are days, months og years old.

Hi,

Thanks for such great program! I used to use previous version without any problem, just willing to see syntax highlighting per entry, as added to new version !!

However, with new version, sometimes exiting the program makes it popup the following message in a loop (until kill process in taskman):

"Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window"

The issue is not persistant. Sometimes it does it, sometimes not. I've tried to check if related to saving file first, browse the tree, etc. but cannot find anything related to the crash.

Anyone experiencing this?

cool idea, but there are some problems with the program. I\'ve installed it on USB drive and:
-- always getting problem with closing - reported above numerous dialogs \"cannot focus disabled or invisible window\" - which I either can wait to die or kill in task manager.
-- not able to change default highlighting scheme
-- there is no session restored
-- was not able to delete newly created record with default \'New Record\' name
-- exception access violation on closing
-- number of button, fact that they\'re duplicate each other is really confusing
I didn\'t test it a lot, but 5 minutes attempt to work, unfortunately end with dissatisfaction. Embarassed

I\'ve used and actually liked quite a lot Notepad++. May be you could borrow it\'s engine for code display, highlighting? Oh! and syntax folding would be just great, but not necessary.

I have checked
"Always show tray icon" and "always minimize to tray" and "Minimize from [X] instead close" in program configuration.

Then I did this

1. Close program with [X] (workes)
2. Click on tray icon to bring program back (workes)
3. click on [X] again. (fails)

In step 3 the program closes instead of minimize

Hey I think your tools is what I looked for a long time now.

The last tool I used was on a Mac (SohoNotes). Now I switched back too windows 7. SohoNotes was able to Export all Notes to a single or multiple text-files.

Is there a way to import this into codebank ?
If not wouldn´t this be a nice additional feature.

Import / Export notes to Text-(or html)-Files and Folders

Thanks

Posted: Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:54 am    Comment subject: Sorting, export to text/HTML, better searching

I've been using this tools for a couple of weeks now. Tried to find an alternative on the net, but failed sofar. This tools suits my needs just fine, but...!

(1)
I wouldn't mind if there was an option to sort the entire contents of a bank (much like the way it is done in TreeLine).

(2)
Could you enhance the export option a bit? Export to text or HTML would be nice. And also being able to select only a part of the bank?

(3)
Quick search is very limited. No find next, etc. And I don't get the filter function at all. Is there some help on how to use it?

Keep up the good work!

Peter.

Posted: Thu Apr 08, 2010 12:09 am    Comment subject: Filter feature in CodeBank

The filter feature is actually FULL SEARCH or "find all". This search builds a tree consisting only of the "found" nodes(and their parent folders).
It works like internal search engine in essence.

The quick search has a "find next" feature which is activated by clicking F3 like in many other programs.

Hope that helps Smile

Long time lurker, thought I would say hello! I really dont post much but thanks for the good times I have here. Love this place..

When I was hurt in that automotive accident my life would be changed for all time. Sadly that driver had no car insurance and I was going to be in pain for ever.

This was not time for me to start and guess what to do. I had to find a good personal injury lawyer to help me get what I needed. After all, my family was counting on me.

How lousy was it? I has bedridden for 8 months, I had to have constant care and my clinic bills went through the roof!

Luckily, I found a good referral site to help me.

I will post more later this period to tell you more about what I have been going through.

Posted: Sun May 02, 2010 4:22 am    Comment subject: Good Tool - Minor Enhancements Suggested

Hi, I like this tool and use it for years now. Nevertheless a few things are annoying:

- i use the tool a lot to store login data, which involves copy - paste. I normally use double click to select a word, Ctrl-C then Ctrl-V to paset. The doubble klick word selection stops at digits so you need to drag select - very annoying

- when using the global search (good feature) you normally have to search the same item in the resulting pages. But there you have to enter the same search string again. If the current position of the page is not on top, you have to scroll manually - ther should be a wrap search.

Two small changes and the tool becomes even better. Can you please implement these or provide source code?

Thank you.
