nFLVPlayer latest version (1.2.3.54) |
|
| Description: |
nFLVPlayer - standalone FlashVideo (FLV) player for windows
I wrote this program because I needed a decent flash video(.flv) player and there was none to satisfy my requirements.
It's built around macromedia flash ActiveX control and that control does decode the video so compliance is 100% guaranteed (it supports all codecs your installed flash player supports like sorenson, On2 VP6 etc).
nFLVPlayer plays Flash Video (tm) format also known as .flv. This format provides the best available compression out there through the VP6 codec. At this time this is the best video format for online video playback ... but it lacks support in other means of ussage. A while ago I had to develop an online video system that needed to play video in this format and I found out there was no decent standalone player to try my video's quality/size in various setups ... so I worte this one.
nFLVPlayer can also be used to play videos from most large online sources (like YouTube, Google Video, Pornotube, Metacafe, iFilm, Dailymotion,Collegehumor,LiveClip, Myspace,Blastro , Blennus, Blip.tv, Bofunk, Bolt, fliqz, AOL, Break.com, Castpost, CollegeHumor, Current TV, Dachix, Danerd, DailySixer.com, DevilDucky, Double Agent, eVideoShare, FindVideos, Free Video Blog, Grouper, Hiphopdeal, Music.com, MusicVideoCodes.info, MySpace Video Code, Newgrounds, PcPlanets, Pixparty, PlsThx, Putfile, Revver, eefoof,Professional Rockstars and many more. ) providing you get the proper URL's.
You can use mozilla firefox extensions(now called Add-ons but still linking to "Get Extensions" WTF?!?) like Ook? Video Ook!, Fast Video Download, Google Video Downloader etc. to get the proper links or download the videos.
This player offers common video player functionality controls. As an addition there is an OSD display, Smoothing function, and most recently accessed files and URL's list.
Since version 1.1+ nFLVPlayer offers fullscreen playback and picture adjustment controls for brightness, contrast, saturation and hue.
You need a flash plugin installed on your system in order for this player to work. The oldest flash version that nFLVPlayer supports is Flash 7 which imposes some limitations and may not play all possible videos because it lacks codecs for the newest. I recommend installing flash 9 as it has quite alot of improvements in performance.
This player provides superior full screen playback performance compared to other similar players still the performance bottlneneck lies in Macromedia(now Adobe)'s poor OS support. As stated above flash player 9 or newer is recomended for better fullscreen performance.
Note that FlashVideo is generally very CPU consumming so heavy bitrate video might need faster CPU accordingly.
It's light. It's fast. It's FREE. Enjoy!
P.S. For the future of nFLVPlayer I'm investigating the idea of making nFLVPlayer a semi-codec for DirectShow which will allow flv video to be played with MediaPlayer and other DirectShow players(maybe even the use of DivX subtitles will be possible) and fullscreen overlay to be used for better rendering efficiency (which Macromedia fail to implement for years now).

fastforward and time slider(in forward direction) cannot work if there is no pre-buffered video data.
Is that a local file played or a download?

|
|
The only way I can get a video to play at all is by using the open file dialog; a click by association opens the player but with an "Unspecified Error" message and an "Ok" button.
When I force a video to play this way, it progresses for a fraction of a second, and then the dreaded dialog comes up. If I press the OK button it progresses for a fraction of a second more.
I'm running Windows 2000 SP4. I've tried reinstalling my Flash 9 to no avail.
It seems I'll need to stick with version 1.0.3.28 for now. It's still the best standalone player I've found.
Thank you for making it freely available. |

It works fine ! flv files are often bad quality and i think the screen is a little too wide. The right size is FLV player but your soft is better . I use both, but you' re in the right way . Thank you for this work FOR FREE !

| This player used to work well but after a re-install tried it again and now doesn't work because it asks for the flash player to be installed, I have the Macromedia flash player components installed. It seems to me Macromedia has changed something that makes this player unable to play .flv files. |

The downloads have been down due to a hosting service failure.
The download links are restored now and should work. Thank you for your patience. |

I also experience the same problem. Have Windows XP, Adobe Player (Macromedia) but nFLV still asks for the Macromedia download.
How can we solve this, Nikola? |

I have Win XP and the same problems. The Macromedia Flash is already installed.
I did this and it worked:
1. First UNINSTALL the old version (Start > Control panel > Install/remove progs)
2. Do a clean install of the new version.
If you do not uninstall (i.e. if you just overwrite the old installation) you will have these problems.

|
| that's a good tip. the problem is that there is a file named flvplay.swf in nFLVPlayer directory. This file has been changed in the last version and because it already exists nFLVPlayer does not update it. Deleting this file and restarting nFLVPlayer should solve that problem. Uninstal deletes this file too, that's why it solves the problem too. Sorry about that should have made a check but when I realised the case it was too late. |

Sorry for the missed msg above.
To work properly nFLVPlayer require Flash9b.ocx in your C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash directory.
If there is not, execute FlashUtil.exe and if it tells you
"An update to your Adobe Flash Player is available"
then click "Install".
Now nFLVPlayer work fine on my Win XP SP2.
Update by downloading the Macromedia's site installer... sometime don't update the activex at all.
Thank you Nikola |

Hi,
Just wanted to say I like the nFLVPlayer very much, thank you.
One odd thing I noticed after installing the lastest version - the sound OFF/ON button seems to work in reverse on my machine (i.e. sound is produced only when the speaker and red "X" are shown, and vice-versa), compared to an earlier version I was using until today.
Compaq Presario X1000 (Pentium M 1500 MHz) & Windows XP Home SP2
Best wishes,
Nigel |

Hi!
Really nice player you wrote there, 10 out of 10 points!
One option i would love to see though, is a button to tell the player to play the video in the original size, as this seems to be the least power consuming way to play a video, which really makes a difference on older machines.
Bye and thanks for this great freeware!

I got the same problem with the timeline slider when upgrade from the previous version at the first installation.
I tried to remove the previous version first and installed the the latest version 1.2.1.45. The problem is gone. The timeline slider worked perfectly.
nFLVPlayer definitely the best one in the market. I give it 10 of 10. |

some features that i am missing, just as an inspiration are:
Replay Function, and DirectSound Hardware Acceleration Support, so that i can hear the sound coming out of all boxes if i use the clone option with a 5.1 system

Thank you for the very nice NFLVPlayer and greetings from Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA.
I had NFLVPlayer working fine for several weeks, then developed problems after I updated Adobe Flash.
I found this forum site and the following explanation of the correction which I followed exactly. Your program "works like a charm" again now!! In other words, it is a really great addition to my computer.
Your explanation and fix that helped were:
To work properly nFLVPlayer require Flash9b.ocx in your C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash directory.
If there is not, execute FlashUtil.exe and if it tells you
"An update to your Adobe Flash Player is available"
then click "Install".
Now nFLVPlayer work fine on my Win XP SP2.
Update by downloading the Macromedia's site installer... sometime don't update the activex at all.
Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

I've been using your player for such a longtime now, and this latest vesion rocks. Great work my friend.
Is it possible if Brightnest, Saturation, Contrast can be added on later version, some of the videos i downloaded from Youtube light hue is not really pleasant, i would would wish to be able to control this.
Also, how bout Film Effect 'Intensity', similar to DivX v6.6 player, it has this option to add noises like effect make it easy on the eyes.
I like your brilliant option, smooth out those big pixels as we in increase the window sizes, none of the of the players that i've tried before has this feature so you stand out and the only one i use. On the older version you allow use to have the option to turn off and on, i would like this option to put back on on next version maybe.
Thanks alot |

My only wish is that if yuo click a new flv-file it would open in the same window and not start a new one. Maybe in the future. |

When I try to load a URL, a message at the bottom of the player says "connectionError"
Where does the player get its connection details from?
I could not find anywhere to set up any connection preferences.
I tried the URL with another player and it played OK.
I also added nFLVPlayer to the firewall.
Thanks |
